btw supporting palestine is a basic decency. the most normal take is to be against genocide. like naturally. people should not be praised for supporting palestine when it’s literally the moral and ethical stance to take. genocide is bad. i can’t believe we have to explain that to people. genocide is literally bad. it is morally ethical to be against genocide. people shouldn’t be praised for basic decency

A look at some men’s hanfu particulars
English added by me :)
Mamianqun is the hottest item since 2023 and there are a lot of people, who have no understanding on hanfu, buy and wear mamianqun with some sort of white top. People who wear mamianqun in its originally intended way, as in the top covering the skirt, would even get questioned for wearing it the wrong way. Even I got questioned once.
This video exists probably because there is a “controversy” of people declaring that mamianqun is a man’s wear, especially after that person in the video worn it as his fan presented it to him during an event. There are people who even advocate that men rocked the look better than women and are more suitable for Mamianqun because they have a flatter butt so the pleats won’t be puffed / open. It is referred as “炸褶” in Chinese and it is originally a jk - Japan high school female uniform fashion - concept. Traditionally people doesn’t care about it and for the last five or six hundred of years, the top was long enough to cover most of the skirt. And before that, there was also a phase where people purposely puffed up the pleats.
Declaring mamianqun is a men’s wear is like saying Chinese men from the 30s were wearing Qipao. The looks are similar but they are not wearing the same thing. (Although one of the theories of the origin of Qipao is that women wants to wear clothes like men as a sign of gender equity because since about the middle of Han dynasty men’s wear were signatured with a long robe which women’s wear were in two pieces - top and bottom - and derogatory misogynistic terms had arose from this dressing norm. So that’s why Qipao is also called Cheongsam - Cheongsam is also the name of the men’s wear.)
Men could wear a mamianqun, but when wearing it, one should understand that those skirts, especially those ankle-length-or-more brocade skirt are women’s wear. On the other hand, women had been wearing tang-style yuanlingpao but it is not introduced as “female wear” but “cross-dressing” because historically that was what happened. Women generally worn it with different hair style and shoes and many modern tang-style yuanlingpao are designed for female audiences (sizing, colours, prints, modeling etc). Modernly, women also wear yisan and other men’s style but people don’t introduce those clothing as women’s wear.
tldr: This video exists because there are people who preached that mamianqun is a man’s clothing and men rock this style better than women. Men can wear mamianqun but it shouldn’t be advertised as men’s wear, so people who doesn’t know anything about hanfu won’t accidentally cross-dressing.
I will open the fucking TikTok app just to watch this video multiple times
TIKTOKER: I swear to God, no one tickles my testicles more than the people of my own fucking country. Okay, so like WHAT HAPPENED was this year, this summer, I was in Korea. And I linked up with a homie that I haven’t met in a long time, just catching up. “Oh my God, how are you? You GRADUATED? That’s insane, where do you work!?” Whatever. Okay.
So there was a conversation about like, food and preferences. So I just asked him! I just asked him: (in Korean, pronoucing “asparagus” as a Korean loan word) “Hey, when you eat steak, do you put asparagus?”
(in English) And this BITCH. He looks at me DEAD STRAIGHT IN THE FUCKING EYES. Has the AUDACITY to just…. degrade, I guess! Ask me: (in Korean) “HAH! Hey, aren’t you from America? Why are you calling it (emphasizing the Korean pronunciation of asparagus) ASPARAGUS?”
(in English, in an exaggerated stereotypical American accent) OH, I’M SORRY. I’M SORRY! Am I supposed to say ASS-PARA-GUSS? ASS-PARA-GUSS? DO I GO (says his question again in Korean, but breaks up the flow of the speech by pronouncing all the loan words with American pronunciation).
IT FUCKS THE FLOW!!! WHY ARE YOU BITCHING!? I’M TRYING TO HELP YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT I’M TRYING TO SAY! YOU MONOLINGUAL FUCK!!!!

“It hurts…”
Fundamentally, if the democrats lose the presidency in 2024, it will not be because of “voter apathy” or “the idealistic left” or Cornell West or whatever third party candidate the liberals end up blaming. It will be because the democrats have failed to meet the lowest standards of many Americans.
You can talk about strategic voting until you’re blue in the face, but fundamentally, people need reasons to vote for a candidate. There are people in this country watching as their family members get slaughtered by American arms, sent to Israel by Joe Biden. The people watching their families get murdered in Palestine have no reason to support Joe Biden. How can you ask them to?
“Sorry your family got bombed, but I need you to vote for the man who is directly responsible, or *real* people are going to suffer too.”
It was at this point While I was drafting this post that I heard he just started bombing Yemen. It’s like he’s doing everything in his power to sink his own fucking campaign, are you shitting me? This isn’t a matter of “stupid commies not being realistic enough”, he’s not just working for the status quo; just about every action he has taken since October 7th has been an escalation of conflict in the Middle East and made it worse for everyone living there. This is exactly what I’m talking about.
You can scold people for voting wrong as much as you want, but fundamentally the way that democrats can win elections is by pursuing good policy. If the only argument you can come up with in favor of Joe Biden is that he won’t do 1 or 2 of the terrible things that Trump wants to do, then that will simply not appeal to the people who are most intensely affected by Biden’s failures (not to mention people who have moral objections to genocide, even when it doesn’t affect them). You can scream and cry all you want, people are not going to just overlook his role in the ethnic cleansing of Gaza just because he is the Less Bad Genocider.
If a republican wins the presidency in November, you can blame the hundreds of thousands of voters/nonvoters who should’ve agreed with you and put aside every moral concern they ever had about the Biden administration… or you can blame the one fucking guy whose massive foreign policy failures are going to tank his re-election campaign.
